Council Member McKinley described a forum he held with about 100 eighth graders, saying students came prepared and raised topics such as water issues, mental health and drug-rehab facilities. “When I walked into the building, I can't tell you how many kids came up to me, shook my hand, and said, 'Hello, sir. How are you doing?'" McKinley said.
Council discussed logistics for the April event including selection timelines for the seven students who will participate (essay review, AI/plagiarism checks and two graders), seating capacity in the council chamber and a plan to host a social after the meeting. Council asked staff to finalize invitations and logistics so students can prepare.
