District curriculum staff walked the board through the proposed K–12 'mastery 10' social studies standards, telling members the standards are organized by grade bands (K–2, 3–5, 6–8, 9–12) and are aligned to the National College, Career and Civic Life (C3) framework with Kansas content.
"These social studies standards are based on the National College Career and Civic Life, or otherwise known as the C3 framework," the presenter said, describing how the standards define what students should master by the end of each band. Staff emphasized that the standards were developed collaboratively with teachers and curriculum committees during 2023–24 and that continuous improvement is planned.
The presenter noted the standards are implemented using board‑approved instructional materials and that the district reviewed K–5 and 6–12 vertical alignments. Board members were invited to raise questions; staff said items on specials (PE, music, art, library) will be discussed at a future meeting.
