Auburn-Washburn Board honors students and staff for service and achievement

The Auburn‑Washburn Board of Education opened its meeting by recognizing students and staff for recent achievements and long service. Ed, a district staff member who presented the honors, introduced Justin Jeon, a Washburn Rural High School student admitted to Cornell University and praised for founding and coordinating a tutoring program that served more than 180 middle‑school students.
"Justin represents the very best of Washburn Rural scholarship, service and character," Ed said as the board honored Jeon for leadership both in and out of the classroom. Justin thanked his teachers and peers for support.
Ed also recognized Kyle Fowler for years of quietly dependable work as a teacher and assistant coach and for stepping into construction science to meet building needs. "He stepped in...learn new programming, develop new technical skills and embraced a steep learning curve all to meet a need in our building," Ed said.
The board closed the recognitions by honoring Bradley Miles, a Washburn Rural graduate who has worked for the district for nearly 19 years. Ed noted Miles’s consistent presence at events and his productivity in a shortened daily schedule, calling him part of the school’s "extended family." The meeting then moved from recognitions to the business portion of the agenda.
