Gladis Rivera, presidenta del Consejo de la ciudad de Hood River (Hood River City Council president), announced a package of steps the city will pursue in response to federal immigration issues affecting the area. "Estoy aquí para hablar sobre información de nuestra junta del 8 de diciembre," Rivera said, referencing the Dec. 8 council meeting where the measures were discussed.
Rivera said the city plans five actions: issuing a declaration of emergency, ensuring adequate training for all city employees, continuing community listening events, considering whether the city should be a sanctuary city and preparing the resolution that would be needed to adopt such a designation. She specifically told listeners that on Jan. 5 the council will consider whether Hood River "debe de ser una ciudad sanctuaria y una resolución que sería necesaria." Rivera also said the city will continue coordinating with nearby cities and local partners to implement the steps.
The announcement did not record any formal vote or final decision; Rivera presented the items as planned actions and next steps. The council is scheduled to revisit the issue on Jan. 5, when members will consider the proposed sanctuary-city resolution. Rivera closed by thanking viewers and attendees for their participation.
