Shafter Police to add night watch lieutenant, continue motorcycle and drone programs

Police Chief Randy Miller updated the council on department staffing and programs. He said, "effective tomorrow night, we are going to, start, operating with the night watch lieutenant," a rotational assignment among three lieutenants intended to facilitate training and oversight of night shifts.
Miller also reported the motorcycle officer has been effective for outreach and education, that a first-responder drone program is moving through training and logistics, and that the Gossemer police substation is progressing toward a September bid and opening. The chief noted lifeguards will be sworn in tomorrow as part of broader public-safety and recreation readiness.
