The Board ratified an amended tidelands lease that increases the city's tidelands and uplands footprint from 19.7 acres to nearly 32.2 acres to support the Great Gateway project. The mayor said the amendment requires signature by state officials; the city pays no cost for the lease expansion but must execute leasing paperwork and submit it to the Secretary of State and Governor for final approval.
"This amendment expands our tidelands lease with the state of Mississippi from 19.7 acres to over 32 acres for the benefit of the public," the mayor said, noting the change is necessary for the project's scope. The board moved, seconded, and the motion carried unanimously to ratify the amendment and to forward the signed documents to state officials for final signatures.
City staff said they have worked on the amendment for several months and are confident the Governor's signature will follow. The board's ratification authorizes the mayor to sign the city's copy of the amended lease for transmittal to the state.
