Staff presented final reads of multiple KASB policy changes covering executive‑session recording (no recording), limits on employees' political expression at school consistent with board policy and state law, rules for transporting students from other districts, JCAC interrogation/notification guidance, adult‑student placement and identifying off‑duty law‑enforcement officers. The board approved the policy adjustments on the second read.
The board also approved five handbooks (high‑school student, virtual school, high‑school athletic, middle‑school athletic, Chromebook use). The high‑school handbook includes a proposed dress‑code change to prohibit hoods in the building per SRO recommendation. Staff recommended switching academic distinction from a valedictorian/salutatorian determination to Latin‑honor categories tied to GPA.
On procurement, staff recommended a three‑year contract extension with auditing firm Kennedy McKee; the firm proposed a $575 increase from this year to next. The board approved continuing the engagement. On fees, staff proposed a $10 increase to educational materials fees and a $10 increase to athletic participation fees to support curriculum and activities; those increases were approved.
