Board approves renaming of Parents as Teachers to Wylie Little Learners

The Holcomb board unanimously approved a motion to rename the district's Parents as Teachers (PAT) program "Wylie Little Learners," a change staff said will let the program grow beyond limits imposed by the PAT grant.
"We're going to bring the 2 programs together under a new name called Wiley [sic] Little Learners," the coordinator said during the presentation, describing weekly playgroups, prenatal outreach and community partnerships (car-seat checks, hearing/vision screenings and dental presentations). The coordinator, Carrie, told the board the grant had limited service to 10 families and that leaving the grant structure would enable serving more children.
The motion to rename the program was moved by Ryan Bridal and seconded by Jerry; the board voted "aye" and the motion carried. Board members asked about capacity and home-visit obligations; Carrie said capacity will depend on scheduling choices and whether the program continues one‑on‑one home visits. The district will present implementation details and capacity plans to the board as the program expands.
