Holcomb to grind and redo flaking track surface; timeline weather-dependent

"The rubberized paint, which is the final layer of the track, was flaking off," Dr. Myers said. The current working theory is an issue with surface cleaning prior to application; the district anticipates grinding off the top layer and reapplying material on a same-day cleaning-and-spray schedule. The superintendent said the contractor will perform the grinding within roughly 10 days and that plans A and B aim for mid-February or mid-March completion, weather permitting. A contingency plan would delay finishing until after track season, which could require moving or cancelling scheduled meets.
District staff will monitor the warranty and liquidated-damages timeline in the contract, and administrators are contacting nearby facilities in case meets must be relocated.
