Commission approves Love’s Liquor site plan pending rezoning, color elevations and tree replacement

The De Soto City Planning Commission approved the Love’s Liquor site plan contingent on the City Council approving the related rezoning and on the applicant resubmitting colored architectural elevations and a planting plan to mitigate the removal of trees shown on the site plan. Staff said the proposed 5,780-square-foot building meets parking requirements and that the site plan shows an improved access point with curbs and gutters.
Brad, the presenting staff member, told commissioners the plan includes EIFS and stone finishes and that stormwater from the site drains into Kill Creek and then the Kansas River. Commissioners expressed concerns about how the newer façade will blend with adjoining older buildings and about the removal of approximately nine trees on the south side; the commission approved the site plan with conditions that colored elevations matching staff criteria be provided as part of the building permit and that additional screening or trees be added to preserve buffering.
