Staff outlines parks, trails and development updates including Tomahawk Park Phase 2 and Civic Campus Trails

City staff delivered multiple updates on parks, trails and development projects. Gene Marakini (S11) and other staff said Phase 2 of Tomahawk Park is set to begin construction soon and a preconstruction meeting with Sands Construction will occur. The Civic Campus Trails project will connect amenities near City Hall to a newly constructed fishing pond near 159th and Parallel, and staff said an RFQ for trail engineering for Basertown Center Trail phase 1 and Coral Berry Trail is live.
City Administrator Leslie Riverola (S3) and Deputy City Administrator Maddie Bowden (S4) said federal funding will support aspects of trail design for FY2027, noted that design costs are not reimbursable and had been budgeted, and flagged a Fairway groundbreaking scheduled for March 4. Bowden also reported the city’s assessed valuation was released and rose by a little over 7 percent, with about 0.5 percent due to new construction as the city begins the 2026 budget cycle.
"Phase 2 of Tomahawk Park is set to begin construction soon," staff said, and they encouraged council members to attend the Fairway groundbreaking when invitations are available. Staff described these items as part of ongoing capital and development work funded through a mix of federal dollars and city budgeting.
