Council gives consensus for July 4 fireworks at Field of Dreams; city to provide up to $20,000

Deputy City Administrator Maddie Bowden presented an agreement between Basehor City and Basehor Community Volunteers to relocate the Fourth of July celebration to Field of Dreams because the usual parade route is under construction. Bowden said the volunteers have signed the agreement and staff has notified the Field of Dreams operators, who are cooperating. "Through the generosity of this mayor and this council, the fireworks are provided up to $20,000 in order to have a successful event," Bowden said.
Council members asked whether insurance requirements applied to fireworks and the broader event; Bowden said insurance is required both for launching fireworks and for the event overall, and that the volunteer group must return the facility in the same condition and procure dumpster/trash removal. Council members indicated support and provided consensus for staff to proceed.
