The Basehor City Council adopted ordinance 9-55 to add a specific agricultural zoning district separate from suburban residential classifications. Planning and zoning director Jim Sherman said the new district addresses minimum farm size, required setbacks from nearby residences, rules for storage and agricultural buildings, and the intent to accommodate family-scale farms rather than large commercial agricultural operations.
Sherman told the council the change helps align Basehor’s code with how nearby communities handle agricultural annexations and helps preserve existing agricultural uses when land is annexed by the city. Council voted 5-0 to adopt the ordinance.
