Council adopts ordinance to tighten open-space rules in subdivisions

The Basehor City Council unanimously adopted ordinance 9-53 to update municipal subdivision regulations governing open spaces. Planning and zoning director Jim Sherman told the council staff revised antiquated language to better define qualifying open-space areas, set minimum and maximum acreage thresholds, strengthen landscaping and buffering requirements, and allow the planning commission to combine adjacent subdivisions to create larger tracts of open space.
"As this body is well aware, one of the highest priorities of the citizenry is open spaces and parks and trails," said Jim Sherman, Planning and Zoning Director. The council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on a 5-0 vote during the meeting.
