The Hillsboro City Council authorized purchase of a new utility locator for the electric department on council motion after staff described reliability issues with existing equipment and the capabilities of modern locators. Staff recommended acquiring the RD7200-style unit at a price of $10,518.09 including tax, with an annual mapping fee of $360 after the first year.
Webb said the utility locator will improve the city’s ability to map utilities and reduce redundant locates in the field. "They are giving us a little discount ... it does have an annual mapping fee of $360," he said, and staff agreed to check whether an extended warranty option was available. The purchase was moved by Councilman Jorgensen, seconded by Councilman Bye, and the motion carried.
