Ben, a city staff member who presented the case, said the owner “has gotten it cleaned up. The windows have been replaced, and the debris has been removed,” while noting that interior remodeling and a leaning section of fence remain. The owner, identified in the record as Mr. Chambers, described long renovation delays caused by contractors dropping off jobs and supply waits and told council he expected to finish “maybe within the next 3, 4 months.”
Council members debated the compliance timeframe. Staff characterized 30 days as the city’s customary reasonable period to resolve identified violations but noted council could amend the resolution to allow more time if it desired. The motion to adopt Resolution 2026-07 was made by Councilman Wilkins and seconded by Councilman Bai. In the subsequent roll call, Councilman Vai voted yes, Councilman McCarty voted no, and Councilman Jorgensen voted yes; the chair stated the motion carried.
The resolution gives the property owner an additional period to complete the specified clean-up per staff direction, after which the city could take abatement action for any remaining violations. The council thanked the owner for his efforts; staff will follow up on remaining interior work and the fence issue to verify compliance.
