Ed presented the high-school student handbook for next year and described several modest changes, including revised language on generative AI and academic integrity. The handbook for the high school will be printed and distributed soon; other handbooks will follow once the district receives additional legal guidance.
When a board member asked how the handbook will adapt to a pending state cell-phone ban, staff responded they will comply with state law and consult KASB legal counsel and the Kansas State Department of Education for guidance. Ed said the handbook includes a disclaimer that content is subject to change pending state law and that a policy developed by students (presented by site council) informed some of the handbook language. "We put the disclaimer that it was subject to change pending, state law," Ed said.
