Residents praise National Night Out turnout and report progress on beautification grants; NID staff announces employment program

Residents and community partners reported several neighborhood-driven updates at the Oct. 2 Pine Hills NID meeting, including an employment event and progress on beautification projects.
Kenneth Dwyer of the Pine Hills Safe Neighborhoods Partnership said National Night Out had the largest turnout to date, with about "100-120" attendees. Resident JC Walker said he was pleased with assistance on Beautification grants and with help completing Robinswood—s application to refurbish an existing sign.
NID staff said Pine Hills Community Council will host an employment program on Oct. 16 offering clothes and on-the-spot hiring; staff urged partnerships with groups such as Up Orlando for clothing and interview skills. Staff also noted Evans High School maintains a pantry and requested period-poverty donations.
The council encouraged continued coordination among neighborhood interest groups and said staff will circulate BANC program materials and Small Business Week information.
