Board approves shoreline variances to fill and restore artificial boat slip at Seeley Lake

Planner Matt Heimel described two proposed shoreline variances at Seeley Lake to reconstruct an artificial boat slip using pit‑run fill and to create a new berm with riprap and revegetation in the 20‑foot shoreline protection zone. Heimel said the planning board had unanimously recommended approval and that the project includes measures to control suspended sediment, annual inspections for five years and a final inspection before work is effectuated.
Heimel noted other agencies' involvement: "a 404 permit has been issued by the Army Corps of Engineers and a turbidity control permit... was issued by DEQ," and he said DNRC approval is pending. He also said the staff report concluded there should not be adverse impacts to water quality, wildlife or aquatic habitat if sediment controls and enhanced curtains are applied. The board moved and approved both variances, each subject to the eight recommended conditions, including monitoring and final inspection requirements.
Next steps: applicants must satisfy the eight conditions of approval, adhere to turbidity and sediment control measures, and obtain any outstanding state approvals before construction begins.
