Faith Action’s immigrant assistance center is fielding more requests for legal help and family‑location support, according to Maricruz Hernández, who described the organization’s frontline services during a Spanish‑language interview on Talk City Greensboro.
“This year we’ve received many families looking for immigration attorneys and asking how to find detained relatives,” Hernández said, noting case managers help with legal intake, emotional support and referrals. She named several case managers on the team and emphasized the emotional and practical strain on both families and staff.
In addition to legal referrals, Faith Action operates a pantry that distributes food staples, diapers and hygiene items; the organization applied for and received refrigerators from a grant three years earlier, Hernández said, allowing them to provide fresh products such as meat when possible. Faith Action partners with local groups for clothing and furniture assistance.
Hernández said many recent clients arrive in shock and uncertainty and that staff work to stabilize situations while arranging longer‑term help. Faith Action also maintains a referral list of immigration attorneys and this year added an immigration attorney through Mary One Immigration Law Services to support case review and payment plans when appropriate.
The organization asks people in need to call or visit its site for intake information and lists volunteer and donation opportunities for community support.
