"All of our attendance incentives are focused on chronic absenteeism because that's how the county is being graded," the staff member said, and described outreach including student reports to parents at each grading period.
Board members asked clarifying questions about how incentives were communicated and how the attendance categories are defined for state accountability. The staff member outlined the state's bands for attendance performance (exemplary, meet standards, does not meet standards) and said the district will revise the attendance policy to include quarter-day and half-day absence definitions for the coming year. The board set no new directive at the meeting beyond approving the posted policies later in the agenda.
