Board approves HVAC change order and asbestos remediation payments

The board approved a $17,839.42 change order (BG23‑130 Change Order No. 9) covering differential pressure sensors, BAS connections and electrical controls tied to the HVAC project; the board recorded roll-call approval. The cost breakdown included $16,329 to Central Kentucky Sheet Metal, an architect/engineering fee of $922.58 and a construction manager fee of $587.84.
Separately, the board approved a payment of $1,800 to Interstate Environmental for asbestos removal and disposal from three custodial closets at Sappel Street Elementary. Staff explained that additional materials (original window glazing putty, roof panels, and some fire-door cores) were identified as asbestos-containing or assumed to contain asbestos but are encapsulated and not hazardous if left undisturbed; monitoring will continue and removal will be scheduled only if renovation necessitates disturbance.
The board also approved a commissioning payment of $15,660 for the Anderson County Middle School / Sappel Street Elementary project and authorized a payment to Ross Torrent Architects. Staff said commissioning and final punch-list work are nearing completion.
