The ECC presenter said the school serves about 325 students (around 185 preschool) and reported that 63% of ECC kindergarten students were "on level" after 40 instructional days following early assessment and targeted small-group interventions.
The speaker described district investments in intervention staffing and the "science of reading" professional development; the presenter said the district paid teachers for more than 70 hours of extra training and that kindergarten and intervention staff have completed the training. The board heard that preschool staffing ratios (10:1 for preschool, 12:1 for kindergarten) and an Early Childhood Center model are intended to reach a district goal of 80% proficiency across grades by Spring 2027.
Saffle Elementary showcased a new house system to improve school culture and attendance; the school received a $5,000 Rotary Club grant to start house activities. The principal said house-themed attendance incentives and school-wide events have increased engagement and helped meet academic and climate goals.
