Presenter outlines contract savings and material decisions that affect final cost

During the meeting the presenter reviewed reconciled contract numbers and identified an estimated range of savings based on quantities and material choices. He said earlier estimates showed roughly $68k in savings and that current reconciled numbers were "just under $64,500 ahead on the project," noting uncertainty of perhaps $10k depending on final quantities. "Right now, we're looking at a $157,000 saving with the contract ... some of that savings is ... $50,000 savings in terms of treatment choices," the presenter told the board.

The board and staff discussed which treatment option (fabric treatments A vs B) offers longer life and whether to spend a modest fraction of the project cost (presenter estimated fabric at roughly $100k–$106k if full treatment A and B combined) to improve longevity. The engineer suggested that in the context of a $2.1M job a $50k-$106k investment in fabric and subbase treatments could extend service life and be warranted; the board left final material-selection decisions to the engineer with guidance to avoid unnecessary delays.
