Contractor: North Road drainage largely done; base paving likely week of June 16

The Royalton Selectboard heard a construction update from the project presenter about work on North Road, who said most of the drainage work — underdrain and cross culverts — is complete and that headwalls should be available next week. "We're hoping that the head walls will get put in next week ... the base course of pavement the week of the 16th," the presenter said.
The presenter told the board the team expects the wearing course and final touches by roughly the week of July 11, calling that the likely substantial-completion milestone. He also noted a budget sensitivity tied to the asphalt index and oil prices: "So it's probably around $10,000 ... that the asphalt is more expensive," he said, describing how state indexing of asphalt could affect the contract price. Chair (Speaker 4) and staff discussed using the schedule and daily field verifications to reconcile pay requests and to keep the job moving without unnecessary delays.
The presenter emphasized that the first base course is a critical milestone because it reduces erosion risk and allows easier progress toward final paving. The board and staff agreed to continue daily coordination and to copy the town point of contact on pay slips and daily reports to streamline reconciliation.
