Council OKs $1,692 purchase of handheld pool water tester to reduce offsite sampling

Belle Plaine authorized the purchase of a Lumiso Pool Test 6 at a cost of $1,692.40 to allow on-site testing of municipal pool water. Ramon Lujan, Maintenance Director, told the council the city had been driving to Derby for testing at Ultra Modern, buying sample kits annually and receiving results that did not match, which led to extra chemical costs to adjust water quality.
"We spent a lot of money and time driving to Derby to have our water tested at Ultra Modern," Ramon said, explaining the purchase would reduce travel and recurring testing kit costs. Councilmember Allen Hisken moved to approve the purchase and Bryan Nolan seconded; the motion passed 5-0.
Staff said the device is intended to provide more consistent, local results and cut annual testing costs over time. The purchase was funded from the appropriate operational account and carried no recorded opposition.
