Belle Plaine council approves $10,000 correction to library funding
Summary
Council voted unanimously to add $10,000 to the Belle Plaine Library’s 2026 allocation after a budget certificate error reverted the library total to the prior year’s amount. The money will be paid from the General Fund in two $5,000 installments tied to tax allotments.

The Belle Plaine City Council voted Jan. 21 to pay an additional $10,000 to the Belle Plaine Library after a budgeting error reduced the library’s allocation to last year’s figure.
Allen Hisken moved to approve the extra payment, which the minutes record "is to be paid from the General Fund in two installments of $5,000, at the same time as the two major tax allotments are received [from] the county treasurer." The motion carried unanimously.
The correction increases the library’s 2026 total above the $50,000 included in the adopted budget. Council discussion cited an error in the final budget certificate filed with the county; no vote against the measure was recorded. The council’s action ensures the library will receive the intended funding in two scheduled disbursements.
