Fitchburg council accepts $300,000 grant for regional public health programs

The Fitchburg City Council on July 7 unanimously accepted a $300,000 grant from the Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts to support the City of Fitchburg Board of Health as lead municipality for the Montachusett Public Health Network (MPHN). Council adopted Order 135-26 by unanimous consent (10/0); the order was signed by the mayor on July 16, 2026.
The grant will support continuing projects and expansion of services across the MPHN’s 13 communities, according to the order presented to council. Speakers during public comment included Jacquelyn Lessard, who voiced support for the order. The council’s action formally authorizes expenditure of the funds and directs the Board of Health to implement program activities consistent with the grant terms.
