Council discussed the automated metering infrastructure (AMI) rollout and vendor issues stemming from slow data exchange with the vendor G Works. A council member said G Works took months to provide a needed file and frustrated staff progress; the City Administrator said the city is moving to a new software provider and expects the change to remove the delays that have prevented full AMI functionality.
The administrator said AMR systems have been in place and the AMI unit on the water tower will provide real‑time monitoring and two‑way communication once implemented. "It gives customers more ability to... see, you know, people call, 'I think my water is too much,'" he said, adding that the transition should yield better responsiveness and customer information.
