Councilmembers discussed the statutory limit and whether the county should pay the full allowed amount; the council’s decision sets the stipend at $2,000 rather than the $2,500 maximum allowed by statute. The council’s approval came during regular business at the Aug. 5 meeting and will apply to general election expenditures as allowed under state code.
