Commissioners keep current health-insurance carrier; employees to cover additional premium costs

At a routine meeting the board reviewed health-insurance renewal quotes and accepted the current carrier's plan even though total premiums rose from $1,074,952.20 to $1,270,325.40. County agent Zack Richards presented the options and the board concluded the existing plan provided the best coverage for employees.
At a special meeting on Aug. 12, commissioners voted that the incremental premium costs would be paid by employees rather than absorbed by the county. Commissioners recorded premium changes for sample plan tiers (quoted in the minutes): for a $1,000 deductible plan employee-only monthly contribution rose from $98.17 to $109.99 and the employee-plus-child tier increased from $453.77 to $529.40; for a $3,200 deductible plan employee-only rose from $24.32 to $31.46 and employee-plus-child from $322.97 to $382.57. Open enrollment forms were distributed on Aug. 12 and were due Aug. 23 at 4:00 p.m.
Commissioner Rick Roberts moved to proceed with the carrier and Commissioner Todd Ewen seconded; motions to adopt the carrier and to assign additional cost to employees were recorded as passed in the minutes.
