The Council on June 1 voted to suspend the rules and adopted Ordinance No. 2026-06-17 on a single reading to correct a scrivener's error that omitted the newly created Lieutenant rank and salary from the Police Department section of the 2026 Salary Ordinance. Assistant Police Chief Jim Janda explained the rank was added as part of internal reorganization to expand supervision; he said officers previously at the Sergeant rank were bumped up to Lieutenant as a structural change.
Member Andrew Kyres moved to suspend the rules to allow adoption on a single reading; the motion passed unanimously and the ordinance was adopted 6-0. The Council then voted to reinstate the rules. The ordinance makes a housekeeping correction consistent with prior budget approvals and internal departmental changes.
