Committee keeps Zotz to Tots registration fees and debates bike finish-line safety
Summary
The committee backed proposed registration fees for Zotz to Tots (individual $25, couple $40, family $60) and discussed bike-course safety after near-collisions at last year's finish; members proposed an earlier, separate bike finish line, more signage and pylons to slow fast riders.

Committee members agreed to retain the proposed registration fees for Zotz to Tots — $25 for an individual, $40 for a couple and $60 for a family of up to five — and turned to operational issues including race-day registration and course safety.
Committee member (S4) noted the event's recent growth and asked the group to plan for a larger turnout, saying last year's expenses and revenue were modest: "for Zotz to Tots, we spent about $6,100, and we had $8,100 in revenue." Members discussed crowding and bike speed at the finish line; the Chair described last year's response: "we had the sheriff stand behind the finish line and basically tell the bikers that they had to stop and slow down," and several members recommended creating a separate, earlier finish line for cyclists and adding large signage and pylons to funnel bikes into a single lane.
Speakers emphasized practical steps to reduce risk: moving the bike finish closer to the Windy Oak parking lot, installing a clearly labeled "bikes" finish arch or banner, and deploying pylons to prevent riders from crossing into runner lanes. Committee member (S2) said shifting a finish line by a couple of hundred yards would be acceptable if it gave riders room to slow, adding that a visible finish marker was important to prevent riders from continuing past an unlabeled line.
The committee did not adopt a final configuration at the meeting but asked volunteers and staff to explore options before the next planning session and to consider an on-the-day traffic and marshal plan for the finish area.
