Commissioners approve INDOT LPA agreement to secure $880,380 for Scarborough safety project

Du Bois County commissioners voted to accept an INDOT local public agency agreement that will bring approximately $880,380 in federal funds toward the Scarborough safety improvement project. County Highway Engineer Levi presented the agreement and recommended the county engineer be authorized to sign on behalf of the county.
Levi told the board the award covers 90% of construction, inspection and engineering costs and that the county will need to front its share and seek reimbursement. "10% will go in for each, for each phase," he said, noting the work will occur over several years and the county must manage cash flow. Commissioners moved, seconded and voted in favor; the motion carried.
Why it matters: the agreement reduces local construction cost exposure and helps move a safety-focused project toward delivery. The engineer said he will return to the board with scheduling and cash-flow details as they become available.
