Officials outline Quiet Zone update and 'Tea Pot' project plans

Mike McKay told the council the city will complete a one-time update for the Quiet Zone covering three crossings; once that work is done the Quiet Zone will become permanent. He said MKEC will serve as engineers on the 'Tea Pot' project and that the next steps include preparing design plans and determining siting in the park.
McKay said lowering the existing water tower at its current location would be too costly and would require two cranes, which is why siting and design work are under consideration. He also noted the city needs to contact Dig Safe and consult KDOT as part of the next steps.
No formal motion was taken on Feb. 4; the item was presented as an informational update and engineering selection notification.
