The applicant told the commission the structure dates to the early 1980s, is already in the setback, and that the proposed work would not increase the footprint. He said he surveyed the property and measured a 14-foot separation to his neighbor in the front, increasing to about 14.5 feet toward the rear, and that he had solicited neighbor feedback. "I also went to all of my neighbors... and I've got responses that were favorable from all of them," the applicant said, noting he included photos, a survey and neighbor statements in his packet.
Commission discussion focused on whether the proposed change would extend further into the setback; members noted the carport will maintain the existing line and not enlarge the structure. A commissioner moved to approve the variance recommendation; the motion was seconded and the body voted to forward the variance with a recommendation of approval.
The applicant asked what additional steps were required; staff said the packet will be forwarded to the commission and the final decision will be made by the commission at its May 11 meeting. The commission advised the applicant to be prepared to present to the commission for the final determination.
