Council approves 'Thunder by the River' at Wisner River Park, allows small concrete addition

Councilmembers approved a request to use Wisner River Park for the Thunder by the River event on August 20–22, 2026, and accepted a small concrete addition to existing pads used as scales. The organizer, Dave Novak, told the council they planned to add approximately ten feet of concrete to a couple of existing cement pads and had discussed the work with City Administrator Randy Woldt. The motion to approve park use was moved by Councilmember LJ Parker and seconded by Councilmember Barry Meyer; the roll call recorded ayes from Parker, Schweers, Meyer and Gobar and the motion carried.
The minutes show the council granted the permit for the same show and activities as prior years and allowed the modest pad expansion; Novak indicated no other significant changes to the event. City staff will oversee any site work to ensure it meets municipal requirements and public-safety considerations. The approval preserves the event dates (Thursday–Saturday, Aug. 20–22, 2026) and delegates final oversight and any needed permits to city staff.
