City of Oak Hill staff presented a midyear financial snapshot at a budget workshop, saying the city has realized about $2,000,000 in revenues and spent roughly $1,296,000 as of March 31. The presenter described that difference as a roughly $700,000 fund-balance surplus at the midyear point, and noted municipal accounting treats surpluses as fund balance rather than "profit." "We have derived $2,000,000 worth of revenue as of March 31, and we've only spent 1,300,000. That's a $700,000 fund balance surplus at the midyear point," the staff member said.
The presenter also walked through several revenue streams that feed the totals, including property tax collections that are tracking near 100% for the period and local option gas taxes. The staff member cautioned that some revenues, such as certain communication-service receipts and occasional remittances, arrive on differing schedules and that reported totals will be updated as month-end reconciliations are completed.
