Ricky Wade, owner of a group of McDonald's franchises that includes the Belle Glade restaurant, thanked the commission for the welcome and described his intent to be an active business partner in the city. Wade said his group purchased five restaurants — Belle Glade, Clewiston, Okeechobee, Lake Placid and Indiantown — and pledged to hire locally, improve landscaping and invest in community programs.
"I don't only wanna take from the community. I wanna give back to the community in many respects," Wade told the commission. Mayor and commissioners welcomed the investment and indicated staff will remain available to coordinate as the operator settles into the market.
