Council authorizes advertising for Linn Valley water distribution project with $24 million cost estimate

Consultants from B & G told the Linn Valley City Council that the new water tower is "essentially a 100% complete" project and that the only remaining contractor item is the 5% retainage. Aaron Castro of B & G said USDA had provided authorization to advertise the water distribution project and asked the council to approve a 30-day advertising period and a bid opening date. "So we're basically in the last step," Castro said, and presented an engineering opinion of probable cost "in the range of $24,000,000."
The council moved, seconded and voted to authorize B & G Consultants to begin advertising the Linn Valley 2025 water distribution project and to set a bid opening for Friday, Jan. 17. Castro described a change in the bid structure so 636 meters will be included in the base bid with additional meters bid as alternates "to protect in case the bid comes in high." Council members asked logistical questions about plan rooms and distribution; Castro said bids will be posted to a plan room and a local paper and a pre-bid meeting will follow in January. The council was told construction would start in late winter or early spring depending on award and weather.
