Humboldt Natural Gas Board adopts Extreme Weather payment policy

The Humboldt Natural Gas Board on Feb. 18 adopted an Extreme Weather Policy intended to shield customers from late fees when the utility must purchase gas on the spot market at substantially higher prices. The board voted unanimously to approve the measure after discussion of current rates and contingency conditions.
Board member Nolan Fischer moved the policy, which sets two conditions for fee relief: the spot price must be at least three times HMGU's current lock-in purchase price, and the affected bill must be paid in full within 12 months or by Oct. 15, whichever is earlier. Kristi Gambs seconded the motion; the board approved it with all ayes. The action directs residents to contact City Hall to arrange payments under the policy.
