Council hears water-project update; town hall, easements and bid schedule discussed

Council members reported on an Aug. 30 meeting with B&G engineers to update the governing body on the water project. The mayor said the biggest near-term issue is securing easements for right-of-way and that staff are exploring options to maneuver around easement gaps where owners cannot be located. Engineers and staff plan to schedule a town-hall meeting in October (tentatively Oct. 18) for residents to review project details and to coordinate with the council and engineers.
Officials expect to begin bid letting by the end of October so contractors can submit bids for the water work; the council noted the state requirement to accept the lowest responsible bid and described the next steps as: finalize easements, issue bid documents, open bids, and award a contract. No final contracts were approved at the Sept. 9 meeting.
