Brandon Michael Tarrant contested a March 23, 2026 citation but said the flashing beacons were not on when he passed and he believed school was not in session. The magistrate called Oakland Avenue Charter School SRO Samaria Lake, who swore testimony and said she had checked the cameras and CAD entries and documented that both school-zone beacons were flashing that day. "They were flashing, and I documented it in the CAD system," she testified.
On the basis of the photographic imagery and the SRO's in-court testimony about beacon operation, the magistrate found the greater weight of the evidence supported the violation and upheld the notice, assessing the $100 civil penalty and $50 municipal costs.
