Ruggles Landing organizers report $10,000 recurring grant; state support expected for demolition and site work

Ruggles Landing organizers told the Board of Selectmen on Sept. 2 that they have formed a board, filed incorporation paperwork and opened a bank account, and that the project has been the recipient of a recurring $10,000 grant from the Housatonic River Commission.
At the meeting Selectman Jesse Bunce reported that state environmental authorities (DEEP) are expected to fund demolition of the existing lodge and pay for site work including road restructuring, picnic tables, an automatic gate, and a boat launch. Bunce said organizers are working with local groups to plan a paddle for the Boy Scouts to include historical background on the river and dam.
Bunce moved to add a discussion about Ruggles Landing to the Oct. agenda that would include Selectman Ohler and Tim Abbott; he stated he would recuse himself from that discussion. Selectman Craig Whiting seconded the motion and it carried. A public commenter at the meeting asserted that the grant was procured by a group of individuals named earlier in the record, not by the selectmen.
The board recorded no vote tally beyond "motion carried" for the agenda addition. The item will return to the board for a fuller October discussion that may include more details on the DEEP-funded work, the grant terms and volunteer-organizer roles.
