Selectmen approve warrants, abatements and elderly exemption

The Ossipee Town Board of Selectmen voted to approve town warrants and several tax abatements and exemptions at its meeting, including water and sewer warrants and a supplemental tax warrant for a campground property. Chair moved the motions and the board approved them by voice vote.
Board members reviewed specific warrants: a water/sewer warrant for $752.12, a warrant totaling $15,774 for routine billing items and an invoice for $111.81. Staff reported that a Neptune water meter was found removed from a residence and had been reading for 17 months, prompting a theft-of-water charge calculated from an average prior usage period. “The Neptune meter was sitting on the front porch … it hasn't been in for 17 months,” a staff member said, explaining the town billed for the missing period.
The board approved five clerical abatements recommended by the assessor (noted as typically for campers) and granted an abatement for Map 133, Lot 745 (Gold Granite) in the amount of $2,001.05 after the assessor’s review. Selectmen also approved an elderly exemption for Map 86, Lot 14 following the assessor’s certification of eligibility.
For transparency, the board noted that when tax-deeded property is auctioned, any surplus proceeds beyond taxes, penalties and costs are returned to the property owner, and eviction charges are billed separately from buyers’ premium. The board approved its standard annual contract with New Hampshire Tax Deed & Property Auctions to handle the town’s tax-deeding and auction process.
