The New Harmony Plan Historic Preservation Commission approved a permit to replace the existing asphalt roof at 906 East Church Street with a standing-seam metal roof and to reroof a detached backyard building to match.
The chair introduced item 2657 and noted the applicant, Robert Cox, proposed changing materials on the roof and covering a backyard outbuilding with metal to match. Robert Cox said, "The original house was built in 1877," and commissioners discussed using a hidden-fastener standing-seam profile for a consistent appearance. Commissioners confirmed the roof color will be black and discussed visual compatibility with the historic structure.
The chair asked for a motion to approve the permit; the motion was made and seconded and the commission recorded the approval. The chair said she would sign the permit that night and told the applicant the permit could be paid for and picked up the next day; the applicant estimated contractor availability in about four to five weeks. The chair reminded attendees that permits issued by the commission are valid for one year.
