Commission approves design contract to keep KIPP Road safety project on federal schedule

County Engineer Justin Mader told commissioners that Saline County had secured $340,000 through the High Risk Rural Roads (HRR) program to fund construction and engineering for safety countermeasures on KIPP Road from K-4 to Country Club Road. He said three firms submitted qualifications and Schwab Eaton was rated most qualified because of prior work on the project's HRR application and federal project experience.
Mader said the negotiated lump-sum fee for professional design services is $47,290 and recommended approving the professional services agreement to keep the project on schedule and preserve the federal award. "Approval of the attached agreement will allow design work to begin immediately, keeping the project on schedule and positioning the county to utilize the awarded federal funding," Mader said. A commissioner moved to approve RFA 2026-84; the motion was seconded and the commission approved the agreement as presented.
