Principals association asks board to review administrative hiring, seeks meeting before placement letters

Claudia Porcheller addressed the board on behalf of the Dearborn Heights School District No. 7 Association of Principals and Assistant Principals, saying one of the association's members had been laid off earlier in the year and subsequently denied consideration for vacant administrative positions despite meeting certification and performance requirements. "We urge the board to make time to meet with us to hear our concerns in more detail before placement letters are sent out this Friday," she said.
Porcheller said the association is not seeking preferential treatment but requests fair application of objective and consistent criteria in administrative decisions and compliance with the collective bargaining agreement. She read three written questions asking whether the board believes the agreement was followed in this matter, what role the board plays in ensuring superintendent recommendations comply with negotiated agreements and policies, and how the district reconciles use of prior grade‑level experience as a determining factor when prior hires without that experience were appointed in the past. The association asked for a written response to those questions.
