Wayland CIPC to pilot AI-assisted minutes; O'Herlihy to continue taking minutes while trial proceeds

Members reviewed a draft set of minutes for the June 3, 2026 meeting produced by John Kliem with the assistance of artificial intelligence and generally agreed the AI-generated minutes appeared sufficient to satisfy Massachusetts Open Meeting Law requirements, subject to close human review.
Committee members emphasized that someone on the committee must retain responsibility to produce and review draft minutes prior to approval, and that Wayland’s standard minutes template should be used for final versions. Brian O’Herlihy agreed to continue preparing minutes for the next few months while John Kliem continues to test AI-assisted minute production.
Separately, O’Herlihy noted his recent one-year appointment to the Finance Committee and that he expects to remain as the School Committee designee on CIPC until a replacement is appointed, which he said is unlikely before September 2026.
