Habitat for Humanity outlines 29‑unit plan for Burlington Mills; town land donation and rezoning expected

Habitat for Humanity Greater Raleigh presented an update to the Rolesville Board of Commissioners on July 21 describing steps in its due diligence for the Burlington Mills site, a town‑owned 6.5‑acre parcel behind town hall. Patricia Birch, the organization's CEO, said environmental reviews, soil borings and preliminary engineering show the property can accommodate a denser plan than first proposed: "we could put 29 units on the property," she told the board during her presentation.
Birch said the homes would be townhomes with garages, include open green space and a pollinator garden and that Habitat is in discussions with the planning department about buffering and parking to respond to nearby businesses’ access concerns. She said Habitat is not requesting town operating funds at this time, only the donation of the land and town support on rezoning and entitlements; Habitat expects rezoning to be completed by year‑end and horizontal site work within several months of approvals.
